3 Business Lessons Learned From A Particularly Prolific Ivy

This weekend I’ve tackled a job I’ve been putting off for ages. I have a number of mature hedges in my garden. They are taller than me and are made of beech, hawthorn and another thing with little leaves that I don’t know the name of. Underneath them is some of the most vigorous ivy I’ve ever known. All of it has grown like mad in the warm, wet weather we’ve had so far this year. I am the proud owner of a hedge-trimmer, which for 99% of the year resides in the garage. This weekend I’ve had it out and actually used it to tame the hedges. While I was going, I found myself contemplating this massive amount of ivy underneath and the business lessons I can learn from it. (more…)

Don’t Let Life Make You Stop!

Life Happens

A couple of weeks ago, we got a puppy. Her name’s Winnie and in the excitement that is ‘new puppies’, I allowed my weekly newsletter, my Monday Morning Motivator (MMM) to slip. In fact, it slipped my mind so completely, that if one of my readers hadn’t sent me a message to say ‘what happened to your MMM today?’ I wouldn’t have remembered at all.

Wracked with guilt, I put a post on my Facebook page with a picture of Winnie and said that normal service would be resumed next week due to spectacular distractions in the shape of a puppy. (more…)

I have a VIP client with whom I’ve worked closely since the middle of last year. Ruth and I have spent literally hours communicating on the phone and online and last week I had the absolute delight of meeting her in person for a drink. What If I Get TOO MANY Customers?

Two separate conversations about having the risk of attracting too many customers have prompted me to write this week’s blog.

I’m Scared!

In one case, Julia, a fabulous business woman has been offered access to potentially 200+ clients from the employee base within one company. The company is going to pay her to both deliver a talk on her particular area of expertise and then have 1:1 appointments with any of the 200+ who might want to work with her. Beyond that initial appointment, the employees will pay for their own appointments going forward. There’s great potential, scarily great! (more…)
